Yikes...I am hoping that I gave clear enough instructions about homework tonight. I am beginning to wonder, as I have had two phone calls already. The page number is 43, Problem #4. They only have to solve for their name...NOT THE ENTIRE CLASS! We will compare tomorrow the numbers of everyone. Sorry about the confusion!

Please know that page 42 (problems 1-8) was a review of chapter one and I invited all the students who missed more than three to stay in during recess on Friday so that I can reteach the concepts that they missed. We will be having a test next week and want them to be successful. I told them I would pull all the cards to black of students who scored 63% or below. This is considered below 70% and is looked on by Jordan School District as "flunking" and not understanding the concepts taught. I must help them understand. Please help your child to understand it is in their best interest to learn the concepts in chapter one so they can advance to chapter two with complete confidence. They will be able to re-do and fix the page 42 and show they have understanding and then I will change their grade to 100%. Thank you.

September 27

Hey, someone actually read my blog...this is kinda fun. I commented on the comment and now my daughter (mentor) told me that I probably should not comment on the comment but instead, post a new blog.
The question was raised if you read the Gillespie Gazette on the blog, then can you just sign it on a blog comment instead of on the paper? And the answer is, YES! Just comment and then I will know that you prefer reading the Gillespie Gazette on the blog and will save paper (go green) and I will quit sending them home with your child. Your short comment will serve as the signature. And I do mean short. You can simply write a comment as short as this..."I read the GG" signed Katie and boom I will log that into my grade book and your child gets credit for it.

Here is what was assigned today, Monday September 27:

Three times each Spelling List
Crossword Puzzle due on Thursday September 30
Gillespie Gazette sent home
Spelling Parent Letter #5 (Crossword puzzle) due Thursday, September 30
Math homework page 38 (Problems 3-11)
Read for twenty minutes
Sign Orange Planner for reading minutes

Welcome to my First Blog Experience

Welcome to my first attempt at turning green. Thank you to my daughter for helping me set up this blog. I am responding to an idea given to me by Dannielle's mother suggesting I set up a blog. I am eventually going to attempt to post the Gillespie Gazette on my Blog giving parents the option of receiving a hard copy brought home by students and/or simply going to my blog. I am going to try to start posting homework and school assignments daily and see if that helps parents realize what is expected. My goal is to help us all be on the same educational page and help each child succeed and advance.

I will be posting every day, the math homework assignments and also all of the spelling assignments and their due dates. Please remember that each week the students bring home a Parent Spelling Letter homework assignment that is due on Thursday. This assignment is mandatory to being allowed to play the fun spelling game on Thursday. It is also mandatory to have the school spelling assignment completed by Thursday. The Monday parent letter (task 5) and the School assignment are both crossword puzzles. The parent letter crossword puzzle will be done at home and the school crossword assignment will be done during the school day. Students will create the puzzle using the list words given to them on September 27. I will help them with this assignment.

If you prefer to use the Blog and read the Gillespie Gazette from the Blog instead of the hard copy sent home on Monday. Just comment and let me know. Your posted comment will let me know that the Gillespie Gazette was received and the student will not be held accountable for getting the signature and returning it to me signed by parents.

If you do not comment, I will assume that you are not viewing the Blog and wish to continue with the 'old school' method. Either way is fine with me. Please know this. I am trying to do what works the best for each parent.

I do understand that each child is at a different level of "organizational skills" and this might be a help to parents that are wanting to help their child be successful, yet are confused by communication from their child as to what is expected. By using the Blog daily you will be able to hear it "straight from the horses' mouth" (idiom)

I am new at this, so please let's be patient with each other and see if this will even be worthwhile. I am hoping it is. I know there are several 6th grade teachers that use the blog so I am excited to give it a try.

Thank you...wish me luck.
